Remote Medical Services

  • Remote Medical Services

MCL Medics has operated remote medical services since the early 2000s, primarily supporting the UK Continental Shelf and international energy operations. Our Aberdeen centre coordinates offshore medic deployments, topside medical support, and emergency response across multiple time zones.

When your operations run in places where the nearest hospital is a helicopter ride away, medical support cannot be an afterthought. It has to be embedded in your safety infrastructure from day one, operating around the clock, and governed to the same clinical standards you’d expect in any healthcare setting.

Our Aberdeen-based Remote Medical Services centre coordinates a complete medical safety network for offshore energy, maritime, and remote industrial operations. Around the clock, every day of the year. We supply the medics, provide the topside clinical governance, manage the logistics, and make the difficult calls on when a patient needs to stay and when they need to move. The centre has been operational since 1999, and in that time we’ve built the clinical systems, the supply chains, and the physician team to support operations across the North Sea and internationally.

Our Capabilities

  • Topside Medical Support: Direct 24/7 access to UK-based Emergency Physicians for immediate clinical decision support. When your medic encounters a cardiac event, a severe trauma, or an acute medical condition offshore, the quality of the advice they receive determines the outcome. Our Topside Physicians are GMC-registered, Consultant-level specialists with direct understanding of the remote environment. They provide real-time diagnosis, treatment planning, medication authorisation, and medevac decision-making.
  • Medevac Prevention: Active case management onsite to reduce unnecessary evacuations. Every unnecessary medevac costs tens of thousands in helicopter fees, exposes the patient to transport risks, disrupts operations, and ties up safety resources. Our approach combines competent onsite medical management with 24/7 physician backup to treat conditions in situ wherever clinically safe to do so. The result is a measurable reduction in evacuation rates without compromising patient safety.
  • Competence-Assured Staffing: HSE-approved medics trained in-house through our own training programme, fully vetted and certificated, deployed operationally, and backed by our clinical governance framework. We carry the clinical liability for every medic who works under our badge. That’s a significant commitment, and it’s one we can make because we trained them, we assessed them, and we support them around the clock.
  • Integrated Logistics: Clinical supplies, pharmacy stock management, and controlled drugs governance, all coordinated centrally from Aberdeen. Orders are reviewed by clinical pharmacists, not warehouse staff. We hold Home Office licences for Controlled Drug distribution and manage expiry tracking, batch recall alerts, and automatic restocking for your remote assets.
  • Medical Supplies & Equipment: Pharmaceuticals, emergency kits, defibrillators, oxygen systems, and biomedical equipment supplied with full clinical oversight. Every order is assessed for clinical appropriateness against your site’s protocols and formulary.
  • Sickbay & Medical Facility Audits: Independent clinical governance audits of your onsite medical facilities. We verify Controlled Drug registers against physical stock, check equipment calibration and maintenance records, review infection control standards, assess waste disposal compliance, and evaluate medic competency and treatment protocols. The output is a detailed gap analysis with prioritised remediation actions, keeping your facility audit-ready for HSE inspections year-round.
  • Digital Health Technology: Advanced telemedicine systems for real-time diagnostics and onshore connectivity. Our medics can transmit diagnostic-quality ECGs, clinical images, and vital sign data directly to the Topside Physician, enabling definitive diagnosis without evacuation.

FAQs

We train medics, deploy them operationally, and provide 24/7 topside clinical governance, all under one company. Most providers handle one or two of these functions. We manage the entire pipeline, which means consistent clinical standards from qualification through to deployment.
Yes. Our Topside Physicians are GMC-registered, Consultant-level Emergency Medicine specialists with direct understanding of the remote environment. They’ve managed real emergencies in real remote settings.
Yes. While our hub is Aberdeen, we deploy medics and provide topside support to operations globally. Contact our team to discuss specific locations and requirements.
Yes. We hold the necessary Home Office licences to procure and distribute Controlled Drugs with full secure courier protocols and auditable chain-of-custody documentation.
Best practice is an annual external audit by a clinical expert, supported by monthly internal checks by the onsite medic. We provide both.
MCL Medics is Achilles FPAL verified (Supplier Number 1005828) and SEQual verified (Supplier Number 1564). For energy sector procurement teams, this means we’ve passed independent supply chain verification covering health and safety, environmental management, quality systems, and corporate governance. Your pre-qualification process is shortened because the verification is already complete.
