Employee Counselling Services

Supporting you every step of the way

With many highly complex working environments in the UK, employee counselling is becoming an increasingly valuable asset for both employees and their companies. Providing workplace counselling for your staff can offer a range of benefits, including reducing employee presenteeism and absenteeism and increasing staff productivity and engagement.

Investing in your employee’s mental health and giving them the tools they need to improve their own mental and emotional well-being is paramount to achieving a happy, healthy workforce.

What is Employee Counselling?

Employee counselling, also known as workplace counselling, is a therapy process often provided through an employee assistance program to support employees’ mental health and emotional welfare. Through employee counselling, employees can identify and address some of the professional and personal issues they might be dealing with through the help of a counsellor.

At MCL, we can provide employee counselling in person, by phone or online. Our goal is to provide the employees with a secure environment to address everyday issues they might be dealing with and help them develop effective and practical coping strategies. We can also guide the employees in implementing the strategies when needed.

Our counselling services vary depending on the nature and needs of the person, but can include:

Person Centred Counselling

Person centred counselling helps the client to find their own answers and direction, with the counsellor helping the client to understand how they interact with the world and how to develop a greater sense of self awareness in a safe environment. This non-directive, validating process promotes self-discovery, empowers the client and facilitates positive change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on how a person’s thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect their feelings and behaviours. CBT challenges negative thought behaviour patterns and helps the individual replace them with alternative positive ones. Clients will receive homework to do with this type of therapy, and their counsellor will help them learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on behaviour and emotions.

Eye Movement Desensitisation And Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate any distress that has been caused by a traumatic experience. It has been shown to be effective in treating anxiety disorders as well as depression and is compatible with other types of therapy. Since discussing the details of a traumatic experience is not required in EMDR sessions, the anxiety associated with confronting and revealing those details may be alleviated.

Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT)

BSFT concentrates on finding solutions in the present time and exploring the client’s hope for the future to find faster resolutions to their problems. It is future focussed and goal directed, placing importance on discussing solutions rather than problems brought into the session by the client.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt therapy places a lot of emphasis on self-awareness, non-verbal and body language, here-and-now behaviour and the potential for positive change. It helps the client focus on the present and understand what is going on currently, rather than what they perceive to be occurring based on past experiences. The client will be encouraged to accept responsibility for their actions, decisions and feelings.

Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy

Humanistic integrative psychotherapy is centred around the relationship between the therapist and client. Both the client and the counsellor are actively engaged in shaping the processes of assessing the client’s problems or issues, working out what will happen in therapy and evaluating the outcomes. This approach stresses the importance of the client’s capacities for self-regulation, self-actualisation, responsibility and choice, which underpin the process of change.
