When is specialist trauma therapy needed?
When the event was life-threatening, horrifying or involved serious harm. Industrial accidents, near-misses, sudden death of a colleague, security incidents or hostile environment exposure.

Employee counselling services addresses general life stressors. Specialist trauma therapy is a clinical intervention requiring higher-level qualifications, such as EMDR certification. It’s designed specifically for PTSD and acute psychological injury.
Immediate psychological first aid through Critical Incident Support usually happens within 72 hours. Deeper trauma therapy typically begins 2–4 weeks post-event, allowing the brain’s natural healing response to initiate first.
All trauma therapists are BACP or HCPC registered, with specialist EMDR certification or trauma-focused CBT training, recognised by the EMDR Association UK. They are directly employed by MCL and work within our SEQOHS-accredited clinical governance framework, not subcontracted from an external network.
