Trauma Counselling

Standard counselling doesn’t cut it when someone has experienced something genuinely horrifying. Industrial accidents, witnessing a fatality, violent assault. These events leave a different kind of mark. They need a different kind of response.

Our specialist therapy service forms part of our Employee Assistance Programme, delivering evidence-based therapy using protocols recommended by NICE PTSD guidelines (NG116), including Trauma-Focused CBT and EMDR. The goal is to help the brain process traumatic memories, reduce flashbacks and hyper-vigilance and prevent short-term distress from becoming long-term post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

FAQs

Employee counselling services addresses general life stressors. Specialist trauma therapy is a clinical intervention requiring higher-level qualifications, such as EMDR certification. It’s designed specifically for PTSD and acute psychological injury.

Immediate psychological first aid through Critical Incident Support usually happens within 72 hours. Deeper trauma therapy typically begins 2–4 weeks post-event, allowing the brain’s natural healing response to initiate first.

All trauma therapists are BACP or HCPC registered, with specialist EMDR certification or trauma-focused CBT training, recognised by the EMDR Association UK. They are directly employed by MCL and work within our SEQOHS-accredited clinical governance framework, not subcontracted from an external network.
