Shining a light on workers’ health

Did you know that 1.3 million people are suffering from ill health because of their work? This is just one of the statistics that form part of the HSE’s new ‘Go Home Healthy’ campaign, a campaign that the MCL Medics team is supporting to raise further awareness of the issue of work related ill health.

The ‘Go Home Healthy’ campaign aims to shine a light on the issue of work related ill health. The campaign encourages employers to consider a variety of work related ill health issues that could have an impact on their workforce, highlighting the number cases and working days lost due to these health issues. This includes:

  • Lung disease – 14,000 new cases of lung problems caused or made worse by work resulting in 400,000 working days lost and 12,000 deaths each year
  • Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) – 529,000 cases last year resulting in 8.8 million working days lost each year
  • Stress, anxiety and depression – 500,000 people suffering from work related stress with 11.7 million working days lost each year.
