Occupational Health Nurse Advisor

MCL Medics is currently recruiting for a full time Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, based in Barrow, to join our occupational health team. This role is based on a 37.5 hour week, worked over 5 days. – Salary information provided is per Annum.

Working as a member of the UK HSE team, the post holder will drive the delivery of the occupational health standards and processes within our client’s site. Ensuring that statutory obligations are met and that standards of health are maximised.

  • Assisting in the review of Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) to identify health surveillance and health monitoring needs at the client’s site.

  • Delivery of the health surveillance programme, as identified by the client’s site Health Risk Assessment, and health screening in accordance with the health monitoring and health surveillance and standards.

  • Provision of clinical input to the development and review of periodic and ad-hoc health monitoring, screening and surveillance programme requirements at the client’s site.

  • Provision of occupational health support to HSE and HR functions at the client’s site.

  • Provide advice and support to managers and HR in all matters related to sickness absence; coordinating where appropriate referrals on to support services.

  • Researching, developing and delivering health promotion activities to the requirements of the client’s site.

  • Ensuring compliance of all regulatory and legislative requirements associated with the delivery of occupational health and support service at the client’s site.

  • Provision of noise management of NEMS database and responsibility for routine personal monitoring and area monitoring. Acting as COSHH custodian of database and engagement with work parties as required for guidance and advice.

  • Ensuring a thorough audit process that staff and contractors have appropriate HAVS management systems in place. Ensuring through audit process that staff and contractors have appropriate Manual Handling management systems in place

  • Provision of support to HSE team for biological monitoring at the client site. (to include training with Benzene and Mercury monitors to Ops Personnel and via dedicated shutdowns or campaigns).

  • Review and update of OH related procedures

  • Coaching of site personnel via jobsite/auditing and safety meetings on OH matters

  • Acting as a Focal Point for the Terminal appointed First Aiders and provide regular training at site to keep skills up to date. Ensuring the site First Aid Needs Risk Assessment is current and up to date.

  • Undertaking DSE/pregnancy risk assessments and providing the client’s line management and HR with comprehensive reports.

  • Overseeing onsite drug and alcohol screening, when required by the business, for ‘with Cause’ and post incident events.

  • Ensuring that the clinic room is properly maintained and cleaned; including the safe removal of clinical waste.

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records on secure database.

  • Ensuring that all confidential medical records comply with relevant work place legislation including the General Data Protection Regulations; Human Rights Act 1998 and Access to Medical Records Act 1988.

  • Arranging appropriate maintenance of clinic equipment; regular inspection, annual calibration etc. and that records relating to this are kept and stored accordingly. Acting, always, in accordance with the NMC Professional Practice and Code of Conduct.

Key Roles

  • Experience of the delivery of health monitoring and surveillance programmes.
  • Experience in a large multinational organisation, preferably petrochemical or oil and gas.
  • Previous experience in occupational health with a background covering various occupational health settings and environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation in relation to occupational health practice.
  • Working knowledge of supporting clients with sickness absence management
  • Strong verbal and written English Communications Skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified occupational health nurse or Registered General Nurse with experience in occupational health (or working towards OH Degree).
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organisation and a current validated registration with NMC.
  • Strong knowledge of H&S legislation and industry requirements and the interface with occupational hygiene.
