What Are OGUK Medicals

OGUK offshore medicals are carried out to ensure a person is fit to work in an offshore oil & gas working environment.  An OGUK medical certificate allows an individual to work in the North Sea or UK sector for a period of two years.  The OGUK medical was formerly known as the UKOOA medical (United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association).

The OGUK Medical consists of the following elements;

  • Urinalysis
  • Medical, social and occupational history
  • Audiometry
  • Body Mass Index
  • Clinical examination
  • Further tests as required

The OGUK medical safeguards the whole team working in the oil & gas industry – not only is it for your benefit but also for the benefit of your colleagues who all rely on each other to carry out the job properly and ensure safe working in the offshore environment.

Shoulder Width Measurement

It is a requirement for all helicopter passengers travelling to an offshore location in the UK to have their shoulder measurements recorded in a central database.  This shoulder measurement ensures passengers are compatible with the underwater escape exits.  You will be required to bring photographic ID such as a passport or driving licence when attending your shoulder measurement medical.
